Who are these two party animals? They are Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, the eponym of this company.
At its core, Civil Affairs is Civil Engagement (talking to people) and Civil Reconnaissance (looking at their stuff). When you think of Americans doing that, who exemplifies this better than Lewis and Clark? The American pioneers of CA, these two hardy Army officers headed west to meet people and map both the geographic and human terrain of what would become the Western United States.
Sent on a military mission, they observed, mapped, and reported like our current CA Soldiers do. Taking three years to cross the North American continent, they probably took a little bit of time to kick back and appreciate local cultures. They were pretty cool dudes, Lewis hung out with President Jefferson, so the Hawaiian shirts and shades say “hey, people in 1803 aren’t that different from us! They’re cool, too!” Taking a cue from the nickname of the 96th, this shirt pays tribute to the original Originals.
Choose a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life; whether that means walking across a continent, digging a well in the Philippines, or getting REALLY sick at the embassy in Uganda and painting the flowers in the garden a less pleasing color, it’s cool to like your job.
